I’m finishing bios on two dogs who are getting moved to a Fancy Foster Service in Phoenix. I am writing their names on their collars and packing their back packs with favorite socks and toys. After two years and 15 dogs (most who are still living with me, not the plan) rescued in a desolate remote horrible town in Mexico, I’ve finally gotten a US non profit who answered my emails. Yes, we can place some dogs in the US. Two at a time. The smaller the better.
Brothers Niles and Frasier are first up. Here’s their pics when someone brought them to me in the middle of the night last year. On the highway under a fruit crate. Niles hid in the scrap yard for 2 days before coming out and deciding he was hungry. Frasier was ready to get started on the luxury life. He was bed, blanket and bowl right away.
They’ve got all their shots, they’ve been neutered, trained, adopted once and returned because the people had a “fence” and paid no attention to them so they ran away and came back here. They’re leash trained and have their own beds and know a few commands. Potty trained and pretty cute and sporty at 25lbs. Here’s their pics now
Writing their bios after living with them since pups. I try not to get too attached to anyone because they are to be rehabbed and rehomed. Also with 12 of anything, no one is getting favored. But still, you notice things.
“Frasier licks my knees at breakfast, has a low deep bark for a small dog, is good with other dogs, ambivalent about people. Freezes if you pick him up. VERY food motivated. Runs around in a circle on the block if he door crashes but comes back in 5 minutes. Knows his name. Eyes are cinnamon colored. Kind of a nerdy dog, likes to get rolled and buried in sand by others.”
“Niles yodels at birds and if he’s sick his tail doesn’t curl. Low tenor bark and some Husky vocalizations. Caramel eyes. Good with people, kids, other dogs. Bird chaser, car chaser, bike/moto hater (the couriers around here are terribly cruel, if there’s a dog who doesn’t chase those guys, it’s rare) Niles is a protector of Frasier, Frasier is a little bit like a Lenny. He eats three mangoes a day in season. Harvests them off the backyard tree. Hides the bath mat in the back yard and buries his food bowl. A hoarder, but doesn’t destroy anything. If you can find it, it’s intact. ”
Dog Tinder.
I tell them it’s gonna be weird for a couple days. You’ll ride in a car and then likely get crated and you have to wait in Hermosillo and then go to Nogales, then to Tucson and quarantine even though you have all your shots. Then you’ll go to the fancy rehoming place and that lady is very fast at finding good homes for good dogs. Don’t act out. Remember all your manners. Watch your brother. You may or may not get adopted together. Don’t run away, this is your only chance to get out of this place.
