Where did the Field Puppies Go?
Dusty and I walked another sandy alley to the field with the barbed wire to feed the field puppy teenagers. A mottled bunch of babies who are likely 10weeks by now. They got too big to slip under the metal gate so they've been under cars. I'm trying to befriend the females to trap for a spay. The cars have moved and it looks like the people ditched. The house they were living in has some new margarine colored paint rolled on, the windows are still broken and fixed with duct tape but I think there's a "renovation" going on.
Everyone gets stars in their eyes when they know that city folk get contracts to survey mines or dig up lithium somewhere or do some more "geology" to build another Asian pipeline until they realize that high end Mexicans and gringos want high pressure shower heads, windows, clean AC and a good mattress to hit at the end of the day. A soul sucking job is a lot better with a good restaurant and decent sheets. We have neither in this town. They settle for a fully stocked ice cold Modelo beer store on the corner. I've seen some prostitutes but this is a tough town. Better stick with the beers.
The puppies were gone. I see this sometimes like they've swept the street. Collected and gone. There is no animal control and no rescue but me. Pepe the Mexican Mall Cop likely gets his goons to put out poison and everyone gets hauled to the dump. They made that "illegal" in Mexico last year ironically. I'm pretty sure dumping hundreds of human bodies in clandestine graves and murdering their mothers for having the gall to look for their sons is illegal too. But anyway, 'no maltrate los perros'. And also stop pressing those fenty pills and shucking them over the border with drones. It's "illegal".
In other news: Another huge rescue in a gringolandia town 3 hours from here had a hostile take over this week. The founder died and it was all of ONE WEEK before greedy family came in, got overthrown from the Board of Directors and now the City has taken it over and everyone is fired. 300+ dogs and another land grab and someone who has wasted no time letting their thousands of gringo supporters know that their banks are still open and they should keep donating. But they can’t get inside the facility? I smell a rat.
But what of all those dogs? Intel from Tucson says they'll all be euthanized. 20 years that lady devoted to that rescue. Barely in the ground and the foundation goes Maui-fied. New Directors showed up, the sister had a land grab opportunity, suddenly pallets of donated food from the US showed up, a slick donation fund raiser and social media presence was born. Conditions seemed crowded, dogs weren't climate controlled even in this Sonoran desert heat and now the city says they can handle it with two people. Changed the locks. No one can get in. It's a mess and very sad.
I only have 12 full time dogs and I could use 2 people. And a whole lot more money and a pallet of food would be a miracle but I'm always a little glad that I don't have corporate fund raising non profit overlords. Mostly because I want to sleep at night. It would be nice to have some funds to put in a barrier for feral dogs or puppies to quarantine or to buy some dog bowls or sneakers but at least no one is stealing from us. I just rent a scrap yard, no one is trying to get their hands on this juicy real estate (knock on wood). But with a new Tesla factory in the state and more pipeline projects going in, who knows. Still can’t get an Amazon delivery. Anyway that's all the news from the middle of nowhere.
